- KP is not like PGNEET! It is not a written exam in MCQ format. There is no grading or ranking which affects your choice of branch. The result is only PASS or FAIL.
- KP is holistic. It is not only about reproduction of deep theoretical knowledge, but it’s checks whether the candidate is well prepared to work in the German hospital environment.
- KP is beneficiary-oriented, the beneficiary being the patient. It examines your clinical ability to serve as responsible member of a German hospital team for the benefit of patients, and not only for your PG training ambitions.
- KP is practical. It examines, in a simulated hospital situation, your clinical performance in patient history taking, physical examination, report writing and your ability to discuss the case in-depth leading to further diagnostics, differential diagnosis and indicated therapies.
- KP is in Oral/Viva Voce format . It does not follow a direct Q&A between you and the Professors but is in the form of a clinical discussion between doctors in a hospital. During KP exam, you are expected to take the initiative and talk to the examiners (Pro-active) instead of waiting for a a question to be asked.
- KP examiners are Senior doctors working in Hospitals and not University professors. Their objective during the KP exam is to assess whether you have the ability, aptitude and the motivation to work in the position of Assistant Doctor( PG Trainee) in a hospital which is a highly coveted and responsible position coming with a salary of Euro 4300/PM( Approx).
- KP is not difficult for a well-educated Indian doctor. Due to the heavy patient load in Indian hospitals you are usually more experienced than German Medical students after Praktisches Jahr=rotation year.
- The KP standards are equivalent to the final M3 exam for students of German medical school and this corresponds to MBBS. M3 takes place after the rotation year /Praktisches Jahr. Medical standards for M3 and KP are the same. KP covers less topics than M3. But KP pays more attention to personality, communication skills(German) to ensure that you can effectively cooperate with German colleagues and patients.
