Specialization – Neurosurgery

Knowledge, experience and skills in:

  • the general content of training for Sections B and C
  • detection of conservative surgical treatment, aftercare, and rehabilitation of diseases, including tumors of the skull, brain, spine, spinal cord, their vessels, and feeding arteries, the peripheral nerves of the autonomic nervous system and of the endocrine system
  • the detection, treatment, and follow-up neuro-oncological surgical diseases including the basis of area-based tumor therapy
  • palliative care services to be supplied, incoming patients
  • the collection of intraoperative radiological control in the light of findings in radiation protection
  • psychogenic symptoms, reactions, and somato-psychosocial contexts
  • the detection and treatment of pain syndromes
  • the detection of psychogenic syndromes
  • interdisciplinary collaboration, such as radiosurgical treatments
  • the detection and treatment of acute emergencies, including life-saving measures
  • maintenance of vital signs and resuscitation
  • the diagnosis of brain death, including the organization of organ donation
  • the area-based drug therapy
  • the indications, proper sample collection and treatment of laboratory tests and classification of the results in the disease pattern
  • the diagnosis and monitoring of physical, occupational therapy and speech therapy therapeutic measures
  • basic supply of critical care

Examination and treatment procedures:

neurophysiological such as electroencephalogram, including evoked potentials, electromyogram
sonographic examinations and extracranial Doppler/Duplex examination supplying the brain and intracranial vessels
infusion, transfusion and blood replacement therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition
puncture and catheterization techniques, including the procurement of specimens from the liquor system
simple breathing techniques including weaning
local and regional anesthesia
neurosurgical procedures, including minimally invasive stereotactic and endoscopic methods, including the use of neuronavigation
analysis of peripheral and autonomic nerves, for instance, the transfer, suture, neurolysis, tumor removal at the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, eg nerve root, spinal cord compressions, supply of spine injuries
traumatic brain injuries, eg. Intra and extradural hematomas, CSF leaks, 50 depressed fractures
supra and infratentorial intracerebral processes, including tumor operations
In head, brain and spinal deformities, liquorrevulsion eg, surgery in cleft deformities
pain syndromes, such as augmentation, destructive, implantation procedure
Use in diagnostic procedures eg, myelography, lumbar and ventricular CSF drainage with or without pressure measurements, biopsies
other surgical procedures, such as operations on extracranial vessels, tracheotomies, surgical revision
