Specialisation – Radiation therapy

Knowledge, experience and skills in:

  • the general content of training for Sections B and C
  • the fundamentals of radiation physics and radiation biology of tumors and normal tissues in diagnostic and therapeutic use of ionizing radiation
  • the basics required for treatment planning imaging techniques to treatment planning
  • radiation therapy, including diagnosis and treatment planning
  • drug treatment and physical monitoring to enhance the radiation effect in tumor and healthy tissue for protection
  • the basics of intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy
  • the treatment of tumors in the context of combination treatments and interdisciplinary therapy concepts, including specialist expertise related additional training drug treatment of tumors as an integral part of training
  • palliative care services to be supplied incoming patients
  • aftercare and rehabilitation of cancer patients
  • the basics of nutritional medicine, including dietary advice
  • psychogenic symptoms, reactions, and somato-psycho-social contexts
  • the area-based drug therapy
  • the fundamentals of radiation protection for the patient and staff, including personnel monitoring
  • the fundamentals of radiation protection in dealing with open and closed radioactive emitters, including the construction of apparatus and radiation protection
  • equipment device


Examination and treatment procedures:
application of imaging techniques for treatment planning, such as Xray simulator, CT, ultrasound
creation of radiotherapy treatment plans also including combination therapies and interdisciplinary treatment concepts
external beam radiation (particle accelerators, radioactive sources, Xray therapy) including linear accelerators
brachytherapy for tumors of the female genitalia
radiotherapy planning with a simulator, including inclusion of computer plans and computed tomography
cytostatic, immunomodulatory, antihormonal therapy and supportive care cycles solid tumors, including the area of control occurring complications
cycles of chemotherapy, including subsequent monitoring
infusion, transfusion and blood replacement therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition
