Specialisation – Microbiology, Virology and Epidemiology of infections

Knowledge, experience and skills in:

  • the general content of training for Sections B and C
  • the diagnostic methods of bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, serology, and immunology of infectious diseases and their sequelae including microbiologic and virologic
  • stage diagnostics and molecular biology methods
  • the symptomatology, laboratory diagnosis and assessment of the infectious by agents causing diseases
  • the selection of appropriate test materials and their production, transportation, quality assessment and treatment
  • microscopic, biochemical, immunological and molecular biological methods of detection of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other infectious agents including evaluation and interpretation of findings
  • the criteria for distinguishing between pathological and normal flora
  • the principles of laboratory and quality management including compliance and minimization of factors and confounding factors and the evaluation and standardization of investigation process
  • methods for growing, enrichment, differentiation and typing of pathogens including cell culture techniques
  • genotypic characterization of the discovery of pathogens
  • advising on the treatment
  • the general epidemiology and infectious disease epidemiology
  • prevention of infection, including immune prophylaxis
  • the hospital and hygiene practices, including hygiene of alimentation products, utensils and commodities
  • microbiological, virological and hygienic monitoring of operations, intensive care and other hospital areas
  • the creation of health plans and the detection of nosocomial infections and the pathogens and resistance monitoring
  • the detection, prevention and control of hospital infections and evaluation epidemiological surveys
  • microbiological and virological evaluation of therapeutic and disinfectant agents including provisions sensitivity of micro-organisms and viruses to drugs and disinfectants
  • the detection, control and prevention of epidemics

Examination and treatment procedures:

  • bacteriological and virological investigation, including differentiation and germ resistance testing, eg from blood, sputum, pus, urine, tissues, swabs
  • infectionserological detection of antigens and antibodies
  • microscopic detection of bacteria, protozoa, helminths, including their genomic detection by molecular methods
  • cultural grow of bacterium
  • cell culture, antigen detection of viruses
  • auto-antibody tests, including lymphocyte typing and detection of lymphokines
  • determination of components of the immune system, immunoglobulins and complement factors
